Module 3 Advocacy Blog ECE 455

Module 3  Advocacy Blog ECE 455

A quote that you find inspirational regarding the role that advocacy can have in the lives of young children and their families.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.” - Christopher Morley

“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each”.-Plato.

What inspires and excites you most about your advocacy plan and being an advocate?

The most exciting and inspirational part about my advocacy plan are being able to make a difference in a family’s life as well as haring valuable information that will not only benefit the child but the parent as well.
What challenges and/or anxieties do you feel related to engaging in the advocacy efforts you have targeted?

The challenge at the moment is having parent involvement during socialization events. Due to the weather many parents have not being able to participate at the events therefore I have not being able to approach them.

What do you believe will be most effective in helping you overcome any challenging emotions you may be feeling with regard to presenting and implementing your Advocacy Action Plan?

I have the great feeling that the site director and home visitors are on board with me with my advocacy plan. It’s a good feeling that I have their support and they are more than happy to help me out.
How can you encourage others in their advocacy efforts, and how can others encourage you?

I think that a way to encourage others is by not losing hopes and to keep on their efforts for a positive change.  A support that I can gain from my colleagues is by them suggesting ways to involve the parents to come to our events.

  1. I agree that children should learn in an amusing way without force or harshness. Making a change in family lives is very rewarding to me. It is also very rewarding when the site director is on board with caring out you advocacy plan. Parent involvement has always been a challenge but I believe that even though we have had a little harsh weather parents will be coming out soon to paraticipate in soialization especially when they see how it helps the child's developmental growth.

  2. I found both of your quotes very inspirational, and encouraging. I also feel that the most important aspect of my advocacy plan is to be able to truly help families. It seems that your team is wonderful and that you are going to have a very positive advocacy experience.

  3. I found both of your quotes highly inspirational. Those words express a strong image in the reader. I enjoy the fact that most of your advocacy plan is targeted to families. The key source in having almost any advocacy plan work is by having families aboard in what you are trying to help in. It is a bonus that your director and home visitors are supportive off what you are trying to advocate and make happen.
